Phantom of the Opera

Continuing with the musical theme, my roommate, Nicole, asked me to do Phantom of the Opera. Apparently, Phantom was a novel before it was a Broadway show or movie (most famously Andrew Lloyd Weber's 1986 version). The plot revolves around a mysterious phantom living in an opera house, the singer he falls in love with, and singer's childhood lover. The rest of the plot becomes complicated, but it's compelling and very moving - well worth taking the time to see.

Wicked

My roommates have decided that I need to continue my musical-inspired outfits, so here it goes: Wicked. I've never actually seen the Broadway play or read the book (although it's on my list), so I ended up having to look up the background of the story after Hannah sent me pictures of which outfits she wanted me to do. Basically, for those of you like me who don't know much about it, it's the story of the tumultuous friendship between Elphaba, the soon-to-be Wicked Witch of the West, and Galinda (later, Glinda), the Good Witch of the North. Because most people know that a black dress and some green makeup equates an evil witch, I focused solely on Galinda/Glinda.

Moulin Rouge

Moulin Rouge is one of my favorite musicals, as ridiculous as some of the songs are ("Spectacular, Spectacular" anyone?). Most of these outfits are geared more towards dressier occasions, but a couple ("Your Song" and "Come What May") could be worn as everyday outfits:

"Your Song"

Again, for Hannah

Hannah and I are currently watching White Christmas and we both thought that the dresses Betty and Judy (and later, Bob and Phil) wear in the "Sisters" song would be good to turn into modern outfits. Since these dresses are a little extravagant for everyday outfits, I adapted them for a New Year's Eve party:

Dress: Jane Norman, Shoes: Giuseppe Zanotti, Hair Accessory: White House Black Market, Ring: Apples of Gold
(The feather hair accessory is obvious from the fan in the picture, but the ring comes later when Judy and Phil stage a fake engagement.)

For my roommate..

My roommate, Hannah, asked me to put together these outfits while we were watching Titanic earlier today:

Jacket: House of Fraser, Skirt: chickdowntown, Blouse: Piperlime, Earrings: Chanel, Shoes: mytheresa, Necklace: Fifi Bijoux

Blouse: New Look, Skirt: mirabella, Coat: Vivienne Westwood, Shoes: Qupid

Gone with the Wind

I loved Margaret Mitchell's Gone with the Wind, and the movie adaptation is almost as good (better, if you include the fact that you get to actually see the famous outfits rather than try to picture what Scarlett O'Hara was wearing at pivotal points in the novel). Vivien Leigh's outfits were gorgeous in the 1939 film, so I decided to adapt some of the more important dresses to modern-day date outfits:

Wilkes' BBQ

Picnic

Necklace: Fossil, Jeans: American Eagle, Cardigan: Old Navy, Camisole: Old Navy, Shoes: Buckle

Curtain Dress

Dinner and a Movie

Pants: Old Navy, Top: Old Navy, Shoes: BCBG, Necklace: Modcloth, Bracelet: Disney Couture

Ashley's Birthday Party

Night out - Party or Dancing

Dresses (left to right): Amazon, American Eagle, American Eagle, Dress Barn, Gabriella Rocha
Shoes (left to right): Modcloth, Blackbird, Nine West, Buckle, Bouquets, Romantic Soles
